Renovations and extensions to Edwardian Villa

The owners of an Edwardian Villa approached us with a vision to transform their tired, dysfunctional building into a modern, functional family home whilst preserving its character and connection to the garden. The original layout had poor building upgrades and extensions that did not utilise the site's features. Since the villa was located in a conservation area, a sensitive design approach was necessary to maintain the building's character.

We removed some of the existing extensions and extended the ground level to create a modern kitchen/dining/family space. This allowed the formal reception rooms to remain and emphasised the character of the spaces. We reconfigured the building's dysfunctional areas to create a boots rooms, utility rooms, and a leisure wing with a gym and spa. Additionally, we designed a first-floor side extension and a loft conversion to create more bedrooms while the existing bedrooms were re-configured to include dressing rooms and en – suites.

To enhance the building's aesthetic and character, we adopted a contemporary design approach for the side and rear extensions, using high-quality materials and detailed finishes. This juxtaposition was welcomed by the heritage team at the council while also helping to define the internal spaces.
